The Onkyo CR-545 boasts 2 significant advantages over most of its rivals. Firstly, it has an in-built iPod dock, which is revealed by lifting a flap on its top panel. This is a much neater solution than the 'trailing wire' USB plug-in of other units. Secondly, the Onkyo is not as 'tall' as many of its competitors and therefore looks less 'chunky', which some people will prefer. The 545 sounds great too, whether playing CD, DAB, iPod or Mp3 USB stick - very musically coherent, which is unusual in a unit of this type.
DALI ZENSOR 1:
DALI's accountants must have been on holiday when the company designed its brand new ZENSOR 1, because this brilliant new speaker is packed with audiophile features, sounds like a £500 design, yet costs well under £200 a pair. We have been involved in speaker manufacture and quite frankly, we cannot understand how DALI can do the ZENSOR 1 at this price. The drivers are ultra-high quality, including the sort of wood-fibre composite bass unit found in the company's mega-expensive IKON range and are set into a gloss black front baffle that wouldn't be out of place on a speaker costing £1000 a pair. The rest of the cabinet is finished in matt black, or walnut, with high quality binding posts and a handy key-hole wall mounting point on the back. The ZENSOR 1s are slightly larger than Q Acoustics' 2010 and slightly smaller than Mission's MX1, but it is the way they pick out detail and rhythm that sets them apart from the competition. They are crisp and precise, reproducing music with such vitality that every track becomes an absolute joy. What Hi-Fi has already heaped praise on the ZENSOR 1s, awarding them a 5 star review. We agree - these new DALIs are superb!
